Forest Row's Saturday second team eventually fell to an 8 wicket
defeat against Ansty, in a friendly played at Whiteman’s
Green. Row put into bat, made a solid start with Graham Rowe (24)
and Ed Stokes (19) putting on 51 for the first wicket, through
four singles to every boundary. Hallam and Boshoff eventually
struck back for Ansty, as Row took a stumble and lost three wickets
in quick succession. Phil Rowe (31) and Pete Dawes (17) steadied
the ship with a brisk 25 run partnership, before Rowe and Neil
Phillip’s (37) looked to take control of the match, and
set a good total, with a hard earned 60 run partnership for the
fifth wicket. Rowe's dismissal saw another mini collapse, before
21 runs between Phillips and Pinnock (9), and a late flurry from
Shaun Mason (5no) took Row to 172-9 at tea. For Ansty, Hallam
who looked sharp, was the pick of the bowlers with 5-24 off 9
overs, with good support from Belfort who took 2 -25 off 11 overs.
In reply, the Ansty youngsters of James Thorpe (74) and L Anderson
(18) got off to swift start, putting on 32 in 6 overs, before
Adam Webb had Anderson caught by Graham Rowe. Thorpe and R Chisholm
(71no) carried on in the same vein, adding 104 runs for the second
wicket, before Webb struck again, having Thorpe caught by Graham
Rowe. Chisholm and L Boshoff (4no) knocked off the remaining runs
to see Ansty through to victory with 8 overs of the match remaining.
For Row, Adam Webb was the only bowler to have success, taking
2-33 off 10 overs.1-2
