Forest Row, in partnership with Douche, entertained a strong Caterham
side on Saturday. Row batted first, were soon up against a purposeful
opening attack. Britt & Phillips opened, finding runs hard
to come by, which proved to be the pattern for the innings. At
25-3, Sam & Brian Edwards added 17 in positive style –
only for the pair to be dismissed with the score reading 42. Another
brace of wickets reduced Row to 52-7 and the match appeared to
be heading to a quick finish. Young Lawrence Webb joined Humphrey
and though the former made no score, he helped Humphrey raise
a stand of 34. Humphrey showed his fighting qualities in making
35 and a cameo of 24* by Dave Webb guided Row past three figures.
With the monumental task of defending 114, Row needed early wickets.
Lawrence Webb claimed the initial breakthrough – bowling
Downey (10). Whilst Row were creating chances, the fielders were
unable to accept them. Caterham powered on to 58, when Sam Edward
castled Gall (18). Rowlett joined Owen, sieving away, as the pair
took on the field with some risky running. They weren’t
prepared for Geeth to throw the stumps down and dismiss Owen for
36. March (18*) came out with a spring in his step – and
striding down the wicket, ensured Caterham walked over the target
with overs to spare.
