Forest Row unveiled their new sponsor Douch Partnership, pre-match,
entertained Clayton in their first league match since promotion
from division 2. Row won the toss and elected to field. Opening
with Paul Rowe and Neil Divall, some tight bowling – backed
up equally tight fielding, witnessed the breakthrough as Hewer
(9) was caught behind by Wycherley. Whilst Knight steered and
guided, Divall Prodger (8) caught behind and Latham (4) caught
by Rowe, at slip. Murray Divall entered the fray and the metronome
removed Knight (26) – caught Jackson, Riches (21) &
Simonson (4) – caught Francis and Evans (0) caught Rowe.
Francis had Carden (5) well caught in the deep by N Divall –
and his return to the attack yielded Beal’s’ (24)
wicket, bowled – the only unassisted wicket of the innings.
Wycherley stumped Smith off Edwards as Clayton were well restricted
to 130. In reply, Row opened with Ben Francis and Peter Way. Francis
got stuck into the bowling of Beal and Carden from the off. In
a boundary strewn assault, Francis’s delightful clips and
punchy drives, left Clayton decidedly punch drunk and on the ropes.
Raising his fifty, Row appeared to be racing towards the finish
posts – when Way (19) missed a low full toss. Barnett kept
up with the set pace and cantered home, well before 20 overs.
Barnett finished on 23 and Francis – produced the final
KO, with a superb 84*.
