on a typically early season wicket – offering movement off
the seam. Row got off to a bad start, were reduced to 15-3 in
the 6th over. Peter Way & Mark Jackson came together and steadied
the ship with a stand of 85, in 22 overs. When Jackson (25) was
caught behind, Simon Trench, who in his own customary style –
raised the tempo by clattering a whirl wind 43. The stand realised
77, when four wickets fell for nine runs – including Way,
for a gritty 70. Row finished on 186-8, flattered by a generous
contribution of 44 extras – including 28 in wides!
In reply, Row broke through immediately – Paul Rowe bowling
Hewer (0). Knight (21) joined Prodger to add 32, when Lawrence
Webb caught Knight off Murray Divall. Webb then had Beal (0) caught
by Rowe. Divall soon after, trapped Long (0) LBW & Phil Rowe
took a sharp return catch as Clayton stuttered to 40-4. Prodger
(36) later fell to Phil Rowe as wickets fell steadily. Clayton
were finally bowled out – with a brace from Trench to seal
a 45 run win.
