Forest Row, in partnership with Douche, visited Coleman’s
Hatch. On an afternoon which promised rain, Hatch won the toss
and elected to bat. On a wicket of tennis ball bounce, Row opened
with the Divall brothers. Tim Singer flayed away in the air –
taking advantage of the short boundaries. Singer dominated the
opening stand of 37, when Waring caught another Singer (31) aerial
shot. A straight short ball by Neil Divall caught glove, hat and
into the gloves of keeper Keeler to dismiss Van Bergen (6), a
decision to which the batsman voiced his displeasure to the umpire.
Brady (73) & Down (81), continued the method of attack, introduced
by the openers, adding 166 – when both were dismissed by
the time 210 was realised. In full knowledge of the oncoming rain,
Hatch continued to bat with Withawagamage (70*) swung his bat
with great gusto for a whirlwind 70. Hatch finally declared at
tea on 294-4, off their 47 overs – under rain ripe clouds.
The heavens duly opened and washed away any hopes of a contest.
Score: Coleman’s Hatch 294-4 (47) Down 81, Brady 73, Withawagamage
70*.
