Forest Row Sponsored by Flora Pro Activ, Visited Copthorne –
Who Eventually Won the toss and elected to bat, on a wicket, which
would deteriorate as the game went on. Row opened with M Divall
& Sid Shreeve. Ali and cook put on 59. Ali (29) flaying away
to good effect, Cook limpit like. Britt, then Woodward took over
the attack and the pair combined as Britt took a superb running
diving catch off Woodward to dismiss Ali. The pair plugged away
Manfully in the heat of the day, until finally, Britt induced
a mis-times drive by Toms (15), caught by Farncombe. Soon after,
Britt prised the limpit off his rock by knocking back his off
stump. This then induced a mini collapse as Britt collected another
& Woodward 2. A missed catch by Wycherley resulted in a run
out – reducing Copthorne to 111-7. A 30 run stand, dominated
by Smart (30) enabled Copthorne to wrestle some initiative back,
when Britt yorked him in a spell of 18 overs. Copthorne declaring
on 143-8 off 48.
In reply, Wycherley & Way opened for Row gave Copthorne the
perfect start. Wycherley (7) wafted and was caught at slip, then
way (4) followed – run out on a suicidal 2ND. This brought
the form players Neil Divall And Steve Barnett together. On a
wicket, which was tougher to bat on, the pair initially rode their
luck – then took the attack back to Copthorne. Taking full
advantage of the increasingly loose offerings, as Copthorne persisted
with Toms & Garland. 2 fours witnessed Divall pass his fifty,
whilst Barnett provided able support. The pair added a match winning
127 and were only parted when Barnett chased a personal milestone
– bowled Smart for 47. Jackson picked his ball to smash
out of the park to win in style. Divall, unbeaten for a superb
72.
