Forest Row IIs slipped to a 67 run defeat against Crawley Down
II on
Saturday, as first they were stung by the Down tail, and then
came under
Sustained pressure in their run chase. Row put into field, made
a bright start reducing Down to 89 - 6 at one stage, with Adam
Webb continuing to impress taking 2-27 off 8 overs. There were
also two wickets apiece for Jamie Brownlie and Simon Trench, with
only Brazier (20), Fruen (13) and D Todman (15) getting into double
figures, as
Row threatened to take control of the game. But a priceless late
rally by R. Parekh (57) and J. Mears (25no) took down past a merely
defendable total, through maximum batting points to a more than
useful total of 181. Mick Humphrey and Phil Rowe both struck late
on with two wickets a piece to bowl Down out, securing maximum
bowling points for Row.
In reply, S. Dawson and Parekh kept the Row openers tied down,
and after 40
Minute’s wickets began to fall regularly. Of the top order
only brothers
Graham and Phil Rowe (29) and (23) respectively, were in long
enough to
begin to challenge the bowling, and take Row somewhere near the
victory
target. A late onslaught from Steve White (15) and a last wicket
partnership of 20
between Lawrence Jupp (7) and Adam Webb (7no) took Row past 100,
for another
point. But in the end the Down bowling proved too good, and Row
were all out
for 114 with just 5 overs of the match to go. S. Dawson with 5-24
off 12 overs, and P. Davies with 3-35 off 9 were the pick of the
Down bowlers, just reward for consistent line and length.
