Forest Row, in partnership with Douch, entertained a Brian Edwards
XI in a 40 over game. Winning the toss, Row elected to bat on
a wicket which offered some variable bounce early on. Britt opened
with Phil Rowe. The pair added 66 for the 1st wicket – in
good time. Rowe (25) was the first to fall, caught off Sam Edwards
in the 12th over. Dee (19) was off with a four, though Woodward
found a way through to bowl him and Farncombe (6). Neil Divall
joined Britt. The pair both raised their fifties in a stand of
79, when Sam Edwards’ return yorked Divall for 51. Britt
fell to a top edged pull off the same bowler for a determined
79. Youngsters Chris Levaux (17*) & Alex Mason (14*) guided
Row to 240-6 off their 40 overs.
With a more than useful total to defend, Row opened with Ward
& Taylor. The pair bowled their 8 overs through, Ward taking
2-34 and Taylor 3-46 as the Edwards were slightly ahead of the
run rate at 92-5. Complacency appeared to have crept into some
of the fielding side, as the batting led by Horlock (32), then
Sam Edwards and Smith (27*) rattled along at a minimum of 6 runs
an over. Farncombe bowled Horlock, though some lacklustre efforts
witnessed the game slipping away like sand through fingers. Sam
Edwards smashed an unbeaten 89, as the Edwards cantered to a convincing
4-wicket victory – with plenty to spare.
