Under the new sponsorship of Douch Partnership,
Row entertained Felbridge & Sunnyside. Row won the toss and
elected to bat on a wicket, offering some lateral movement. Britt
& Jackson got Row off to a steady start against some reasonably
accurate bowling. The pair held firm and added 81 when Jackson
(23) was bowled Agar. Westmuckett joined Britt, who duly raised
his fifty as Row approached the 100 mark. The 2nd wicket partnership
realised 64, when Britt, looking to up the tempo was beaten by
a ball keeping low from Agar for determined 80. Westmuckett (23)
fell soon after Though Mike Dee (19*) & Brian Edwards (9)
saw Row to 184-4 dec at tea. In reply, Healey and Shepherd opened
against MJ Keeler & Simon Ward. The pair rode their luck with
some streaky shots and were given lives, as Keeler & Ward
strove for a breakthrough, as the batsman also through the gaps
and some lack lustre fielding. Britt’s entry to the attack
witnessed another miss, as the openers capitalised, though didn’t
truly attempt to force the pace. The pair past the 100 mark and
both raised fifties and a platform for an assault on the target
was established. A change of ends for Britt seemed to change Rows
fortunes, starting with a direct hit from Britt in his follow-through
to run out Healey (68) and end the stand of 147. Brian Lancaster
effected a smart stumping to dismiss Shepherd (65) – exposing
two new men at the crease. Britt, after shaving the stumps on
numerous occasions, cleaned up Metz (2), then Wright (2). F&S
finishing 15 runs adrift, when victory should have been well within
their grasp.
