Forest Row, sponsored by Flora Pro Activ visited
F&S on Sunday. F&S won the toss and elected to bat, getting
off to a cautious start until the opening pair of Sam Edwards and
Paul Rowe changed ends. Edwards found his length, bowling Healey
(4), Shepherd (2) and Spencer (7) – to leave F&S 26-3.
Adam Webb’s promising bowling finally realized wickets –
bowling the dangerous Jones (14), then later having Lewis (2) well
caught by Britt at short leg. Croft (18) rode his luck well, with
numerous edges off Britt, failing to find the hands of the slip
cordon. Britt bowled without luck when finally, having Wright caught
by Paul Rowe at short cover – after being dropped at the same
place, previous ball. Phil Rowe ended Croft's fortuitous stay [bowled].
Strike bowler Stokes soon after bowled Rees (3). A final flurry
by Nickels (17) and Clark (10), was ended by a devastating direct
hit by keeper Sid Shreeves – and a nonchalant catch by S Edwards
off Webb, to dismiss F&S for 107 just before tea.
With a relatively small target to chase, Row opted to give some
batting practice to the middle and lower order. A mix up between
Paul Rowe and Sam Edwards (3) resulted in the latter’s demise.
Rowe (6) dollied a simple catch and Sid Shreeves was caught –
when set. At 40-6, Row were in a tight spot with Britt, coming in
at 8, joining Phil Rowe. The pair turned the innings around without
incident, when one moment could of turned the game. On 87-6, Britt
walked on the assumption that keeper Healey had taken a clean catch.
Healey, to his credit recalled Britt, stating that he’d grounded
the ball. A moment encapsulating the ‘true sprit’ of
cricket. When Rowe (16) was bowled with the score on 101-7, it was
left to Britt to see ‘Row home – with the winning boundary.
Finishing unbeaten on 45, as Row won by 3 wickets – with 7.3
overs remaining.
