Forest Row in partnership with Douch entertained Horsham 4ths
in the 2nd round of the Wisdom Trophy. Horsham won the toss &
elected to bat. With the gusting affecting the bowlers, the opening
pair took full toll – getting full value for their shots
on Rows lightening fast outfield. The pair were finally separated
when Jackson’s introduction, witnessed Nutall’s (47)
dismissal – caught in the deep by Paul Rowe. At the half
way stage, Horsham had scored 140-1 and looked set for a score
in excess of 280. Again Jackson struck, - Wycherley stumping Gilchrist
(40). He then castled Keeler (0) and Row were bowling them selves
back into the game. A Barnett burst had Lother (16) stumped. Paul
Rowe’s belated entry into the attack reaped instant dividends.
He bowled a good line to Goodway, who said good bye to his leg
stump – bowled for a classy 86. Rowe then ripped through
the lower order with three more strikes – Horsham closing
on 240-8, giving Row a glimmer of hope.
The reply got off to a sound start with Wycherley & Osborne
setting the tone. They added 47 when Osborne (28) was dismissed.
Barnett (33) helped keep Row in touch, however, three quick wickets
witnessed Row wobbling at 134-4 – Wycherley out for a fine
50 runs. Cameos from Edwards (15) & Rowe – with Jackson,
kept Row ticking along at a run a ball. The drama continued when
Britt joined Jackson at 194-8. They whittled the target down as
the overs past. A further twist came when Jackson (46), batting
with a runner – was run out. With only Smith & Britt
remaining, Horsham sensed victory. The pair brought the score
to within three runs – into the last over, where a bye run
off a wide, followed by another wide, sealed a thrilling one wicket
win. Britt finished unbeaten on 20, Smith 4*.
