Forest Row, in partnership with Douch, entertained Horsted Keynes,
looking to consolidate their league position. Winning the toss,
Row elected to field. N Divall struck in his 2nd over, trapping
Powell (1) LBW. R Fuller joined run machine S Fuller in a stand
of 59 – broken when Rowe had R Fuller (13) LBW. S Fuller
continued to dominate the scoring, raising his fifty - though
Edwards’s accuracy was rewarded when Wycherley took a superb
effort standing up, to dismiss Fuller for 61. Rowe then bowled
Shirreff (0), though Emmerson was showing his form. Britt joined
the fray and after a juggling effort by Farncombe – picked
up Pontifex. Emmerson (41) tried to hoick Britt out of the ground,
hit the ball high into the air – with Rowe comfortably placed
to take a brilliant catch. Divall’s return witnessed Butcher
(6) bowled. Britt then had M Emmerson plumb LBW and bowled Waters
(0), as Keynes were restricted to 159-9 at tea.
Row lost Wycherley 1st ball. Britt (13) and Francis (31) added
41 when Britt played too early and was caught at short cover.
A mix-up between Divall and Francis saw the latter needlessly
run out. Divall (9), then Jackson (4) soon followed. Osbourne
and Edwards steadied the ship with a stand of 26. With the score
on 90, Edwards took on the arm of S Fuller and lost. Osbourne
(21), looking in fine touch was hit on the hip and adjudged LBW.
Row now on 95-7 and in trouble. Worst to come was when R Fuller
dismissed Rowe and Keeler. 110-9, staring defeat in the face,
a heroic last wicket stand between Farncombe & Hillen took
shape. Well on top of the run rate, Farncombe in particular discovered
form of old. Keynes were getting increasingly agitated as this
stand had the makings of a victory. The pair appeared in control
– 3.5 runs per over required. Farncombe had taken 6 off
a R Fuller over, when a rush of blood took over and he was caught
at extra cover – handing Keynes a 20 run victory with 7
overs remaining.
