Forest Row travelled to Lindfield for their first Sunday fixture
of the season. Acting captain Martin Britt, won the toss and elected
to field on a wicket which was of low bounce. Opening with the
father and son Combo of Mike and MJ Keeler. Both kept things tight,
though it was the senior Keeler making the breakthrough, bowling
Newcombe (2)Chamberlin and Clark built a partnership 90 over 1
¾ hours, with ‘Row’s bowlers unable to make
a breakthrough. The partnership was finally broken with the entrance
of Britt, bowling Chamberlin for a determined 58. Soon after,
he then bowled Hardy (2) and Murray Divall trapped the equally
stubborn Clark LBW for 48. What proved to take the game away from
‘Row was Nurse’s cameo 28 – highlighted by 3
successive sixes off Divall. The return of Mike Keeler concluded
that cameo and witnessed the closure of the innings on 154-5.
In reply, ‘Row opening with Britt (8) and Phil Rowe (7),
got off to comfortable start when Britt mis-judged the bounce
and spliced a catch. Rowe then was adjudged LBW. Only four players
went on the make double figures, the best efforts came from M
Divall (11) and Mike Keeler (10*), with the lower order unable
to offer any more resistance than the upper order. ‘Row
succumbing to a disappointing 52 run defeat – where a draw
at least, was eminently possible.
