Forest Row, sponsored by Flora Pro Activ, entertained Newick
in a re-arranged fixture. Newick won the toss and elected to field,
on a low wicket. Britt and Phil Rowe opened, adding 21 before
Britt (15) fell. Phil Rowe (8) was bowled by Stracken at 39-2.
G. Rowe and Craig Sargent combined to add 119 for the 3rd wicket.
On Sargents return to Forest Row, Row witnessed a superb knock,
taking full toll of some woeful bowling – to smash a blistering
80. Paul Rowe joined G.Rowe in a stand of 23, when the latter
was bowled by Spracklin – 2 shy of 50. Paul soon followed
in bizarre fashion. He was caught at mid off, after crashing a
drive into the boot of bowler Cone. White’s terrific cameo
of 24 enabled ‘Row to post 208-9 – Spracklin claiming
5-50.
In reply, Murray Divall gave Row the perfect start – bowling
Hitchins (0), and then taking a return catch off Bailey (0) with
the score reading 4-2! Sergent’s throw to the keeper ran
out Spracklin (6) with the score on 18-3. Cone, aided by Stracken
(24) put on 71 when Paul Rowe knocked Stracken’s leg stump
out of the ground. Sargent’s spin kept the scoring in check,
as Cone continued his fortuitous lone hand – enjoying numerous
lives, passing 50, and then passing 100. Phil Rowes’ introduction
had Newick in a spin. Running through the order, he claimed 5-17
off eight overs. Paul Rowe returned to bowl Holman to end the
collapse. Row winning by 50 runs.
