In Spanking good form!! |
Performer of the season!! |
In a re-arranged fixture, Forest Row sponsored by flora pro activ,
entertained Old Morrisonians. Row won the toss and elected to
bat on a wicket exhibiting variations in bounce and some assistance
to the bowler. Row opened with Britt and Westmuckett, finding
the going difficult, against some accurate bowling, with the new
ball exaggerating the pitch conditions. The pair added 40 when
Westmuckett’s miss-timed drive was caught at deep mid on.
Shreeve(6), then Edwards(0) soon perished and when Britt was brilliantly
caught from a diving low catch at cover point, Row were 60-4.
Row were further reduced to 69-7, when Stokes joined Trench. Stokes
farmed the strike to great effect, but the champion blocker also
produced some strokes, highlighted by a flick to leg for four.
Meanwhile Trench was finding the gaps, in his own customary style.
After Stokes (11) departed, Dave Webb played second fiddle –
with Trench devouring Cooke for 26 off the bat in one over. A
single raised a finely spanked fifty for Trench – unbeaten
on 56* at tea. Webb remained 11* at Row totalled a defendable
149.
In reply, Newbold(17) and Goodway(29) held firm the face of a
testing examination from M Divall and Shreeve. However, it was
the ever improving Adam Webb who obtained the breakthrough, having
Newbold caught by ‘keeper Trench. Webb then bowled Braizer
(27) who looked to be getting on top, quickly. At 91-2, the game
was nicely poised when Britt who had Goodway dropped behind –
cleaned him up an over later. A mix-up witnessed Webb and Britt
combining to run out Cooke. ‘Row’s victory charge
was in overdrive as Britt bowled three in an over, then Phil Rowe
took two in two as ‘Morrisonians were teetering on 117-9.
With two overs remaining, Britt and Rowe were replaced by Stokes
and White, enabling the last pair to escape with a draw.
