Forest Row IIs entertained Plumpton II on Saturday, and slipped
to an 84 run
defeat with just 8 overs of the match remaining. Row, bowling
first soon struck, with Phil Rowe and Jamie Brownlie having both
openers caught off edges by the 13th over, with the score on 29.
Steve Eason (64) and Glyn Wales (29) took the attack back to the
bowlers, blasting 55 runs in 11 overs. But just as Plumpton looked
like running away with the game a piece of Phil Rowe magic saw
Wales bowled, then soon after Paddy Sellars bowled Derek Coltham
(0) to peg them back at 87-4. A further 37 runs were added for
the fifth wicket between Eason (completing his half century) and
Barter (8), before both fell to Paddy Sellars. A 42 run partnership
for the 7th wicket between Peter Whear (32) and Gary Stevens (18)
took Plumpton towards maximum batting points, eventually closing
on 177 - 8 by tea.
In reply, Graham Rowe (20) and Jamie Brownlie (21) got the Row
innings off
to a steady start, adding 35 for the first wicket. Then Row lost
3 wickets
in the space of 2 overs. Whear was on a hat-trick when he bowled
Rowe and
then trapped White lbw. Westmuckett (1) who survived hat-trick
ball, was
bowled by a super delivery from Simon Stevens, drifting from off,
pitching
outside leg, before coming back to take out middle stump. Brownlie
and Phil Rowe (20) steadied things were Row briefly, Rowe working
the ball around the pitch very well for singles. But when they
both departed to catches of Whears bowling, by the start of the
last 20 overs, Row had slipped to 68-5. Neil Phillips (12) briefly
flourished, but Plumpton were taking wickets regularly, and putting
Row under pressure. Only 23 further runs were added as one by
one the remaining wickets fell,
till Ranson claimed the final wicket to dismiss Row officially
for 93 with 8
overs to spare. Peter Whear was the most destructive of the Plumpton
bowlers, taking 7-25 off 14 overs, while there was good support
from Simon Stevens who took 2-29
off 11 overs.
