Forest Row, in partnership with Douche, visited Poynings in their
latest Stoner div. 1 clash. After receiving a wet welcome in the
form a shower, Row won the toss and elected to field. Neil Divall
and Paul Rowe opened, with Rowe striking immediately – have
Jenner (0) caught behind. Rapley & Brookes batted sedately,
taking toll of some loose offerings. Rapley (17) fell, driving
a low full toss to MJ Keeler off Rowe. Dangerman Cutress started
in a very circumspect and compact style, finding most profit through
on-driving wide of mid-on. Jackson’s entry witnessed him
being dispatched by Cutress (43) over long leg for six –
though Jackson claimed him when tried to repeat the stroke. Meanwhile,
Murray Divall, after initially struggling with his length, was
back to his metronomic best – trapping Brookes (20) LBW
when attempting a highly ambitious sweep. Though runs came from
Toogood (24), Walys-Taylor (28) and Cutress junior (14*), Murray
miserly spell yielded three more wickets as Poynings just scraped
up to their target of maximum points.
In reply, Row needed a good start – and one. Whilst Wycherley
rode his luck, Francis (23) delighted with some leg side flicks
of the bats – to be caught at mid wicket with the score
on 45. Barnett’s (12) brief cameo kept the tempo going until
he found the bowler was too good – for him. Brookes bizarrely
bowled Neil Divall (2) and when Wycherley (35), followed by Rowe
(0) were dismissed, the innings was in the balance. Simon Trench
in his maiden 1st team match - joined the ‘in-form’
Jackson – adding 34 for the 6th wicket. Thumping a quick
fire 30, he lived and died by the sword – bowled by the
ever-accurate Cutress. Britt joined Jackson, with victory still
45 runs away. Calmness personified, he and Jackson set about knocking
off the required runs. Waiting the loose deliveries, the pair
guided Row home with 2.5 overs to spare. Jackson with the winning
stroke for four.
