Forest Row 2nds, sponsored by Flora Pro Activ, entertained Roffey
4ths in the quarter final of the Sally Miller Plate. Roffey won
the toss and elected to bat. Row got off to a fortuitous start
when their umpire gave a caught behind decision off the pad. Paul
Rowe then sent middle stump flying, with the score in the twenties.
The third wicket pair took advantage of some dropped catches and
a fast out field to post a stand of 50. With the score on 84-2,
Roffey collapsed against the bowling of Phil Rowe and Murray Divall,
taking 4 wickets a piece. Only a last wicket stand of 25 witnessed
a target set of 125 to win – with 13 overs unused.
With a run rate of just over 3 an over, victory seemed certain.
However the early loss of G. Rowe and then Humphreys provided
a little concern. Sam Edwards was joined by Paul Rowe, with a
a combination of some clinical stoke play, some flamboyant shots
and outrageous running, saw ‘Row knock the running off in
a care free manner. Although Edwards perished, Rowe was unbeaten
on 45 when victory was achieved.
