Forest Row IIs finished their league campaign on a high, recording
there
Fifth win with a one wicket victory over St. Andrews III on Saturday,
in a
Nail biting finish. Row elected to field and made a very good
start with Simon Trench and Jamie Brownlie removing both openers
by the fourth over. C. Mayne (24) and N. Dunning (76) soon settled
and took the fight back to the bowlers with a good
Stand of 52, before Lawrence Webb had Mayne caught by Dave Webb.
Dunning was the lynchpin of the St. Andrews innings receiving
good support from W. Renyon (16) before an acrobatic Mick Humphrey
took a fine catch off his bowling to end the stand of 32. The
impressive 15-year-old Will Burgess (20) carried on the good work,
adding with Dunning (passing 50) 54 runs for the fifth wicket
in 40 minutes, before the returning Brownlie bowled him. Trench
returned and claimed two further wickets, including danger man
Dunning to have St. Andrews at 159-7. A late flurry of runs from
P. Collins (19no) and M. Jeffries (6no) saw St. Andrews past maximum
batting points to a total of 180-7 by tea.
In reply, Dave Webb (25) provided Row with a brisk start, while
Tucker and
Tate took a wicket a piece for St. Andrews, to have Row on 22-2.
Simon
Trench (61) joined Webb, and in typical style quickly got at the
bowling.
They dominated the bowling adding 50 runs in just 7 overs. After
Webb was caught off Dunning, Trench (easily going past 50) and
skipper Rick Walsom (20) crashed 37 runs in just 4 further overs
to take Row past 100, just before the start of 20 overs. Tucker
struck back for St. Andrews with the vital wicket of Trench. Walsom
and Brian Edwards (3) shared a further stand of 17 before the
St. Andrews bowlers came back into things, P. Collins striking
twice, and Jeffries taking a wicket to peg Row back at 133-7,
with 12 overs remaining. Alan Westmuckett (17) and Pete Dawes
(27) took charge, and through good defence and selective shots
kept the victory charge going, adding 46 runs in just 8 overs.
They took Row to within two runs of victory before they were both
dismissed. Westmuckett was run out by sharp St. Andrew's fielding,
and soon after Dawes was caught mid-off, to leave the last pair
of Lawrence Webb (1no) and Ed Stokes (0no) to see the job finished.
