Forest Row, under new sponsorship from Douche the builders, entertained
Streat in the 1st round of the Wisdom cup. Row won the toss &
elected to field, opening up with Paul Rowe & Neil Divall.
Both bowled disciplined lines, backed up by equally disciplined
fielding. Rowe made the initial breakthrough, ensuring Christmas
(2) came & went early. The metronomical Murray Divall maintained
the pressure and was rewarded with Mansfield (13) LBW & bowling
Hills (0) – as Jeyes started to chance his arm with some
fine drives. Hillen’s 1st bowl of the year showed no signs
of rust in his spell, as Davies with Jeyes were building a platform,
with 3 wickets down. Britt’s entry witnessed the dismissal
of Jeyes (40) – caught N.Divall, then bowled Davies (19)
and Walter (7). Mettyear meted out some punishment via the aerial
route, managing to evade the field. The return of N. Divall &
Hillen brought a wicket a piece, as Streat totalled 170-8. In
reply, Row lost debutante Francis (0) early, though Wycherley
(15), then Barnett (22) helped the score to 61-3. N. Divall’s
acceleration raised the tempo and put Row well on course, adding
74 with Jackson (10), when Ingram got his revenge for earlier
punishment. Divall bowled for a match winning 79. If that was
the icing, the cherry was added by Sam Edwards – smashing
a whirlwind 23 to seal a 5 wicket win, with 4.2 overs remaining.
