Forest Row's second team recorded a comfortable 93 run win over
Streat II on Saturday, in the Sally Miller Plate knock-out competition.
Row won the toss elected to bat, and got off to a bad start losing
Richard Woodward (0) in the second over. However, despite the
early wicket Streat struggled to bowl straight against a firm
southerly wind, and Mr Wides with 30 in the first 11 overs helped
the scoreboard along early on. Opener Graham Rowe carried his
bat for 84, due reward for patience and playing every ball on
its merits. His partnerships of 42 with Phil Rowe (8), 22 with
Simon Trench (3) and 19 with Mick Humphrey (9) looked to have
set Row on their way to a reasonable total. However, Row's middle
order shouldn't look for jobs with air traffic control, as they
just couldn’t read the flight path of the Streat skipper
Stan Spiegel, who worked with his way to 4-32 off 4.8 overs, and
Row were suddenly struggling to avoid dismissal for less than
120. A late rally from Rowe and Mike Keeler (13), with a well
worked partnership of 17, and then an excellent unbroken partnership
of 37 between Rowe and Jamie Brownlie (16no) took Row's final
total to a more than respectable 180-9. In reply, Streat's lost
their top three batsmen for 19 runs, Mike Keeler 2 wickets and
Simon Trench 1 struck early. Bowles (19) and Tomsett (20) put
Streat back on track with a rapid 4th wicket partnership of 36.
However once they fell in quick succession, the remaining wickets
fell at regular intervals, M Stratford (13no) being the only over
batsman to get double figures.
Streat were eventually dismissed for 87 by the 28th over. Mike
Keeler was the pick of the Row bowlers with 4-10 off 7 overs.
