In an additional fixture, Row travelled to Wadhurst
for a bank holiday friendly. Row won the toss & elected to
bat lost Britt (7) early. However, with Brother Phil joining Graham
Rowe, a stand of 59 was realised. G Rowe rode his luck well, as
Taylor bowled Phil for 28. Mike Gaunt’s elevation to no.
4 helped add 43, when G Rowe’s patient knock of 38 was ended.
Trench (10) thumped two 4’s when he top edged a sweep into
his eye and had to retire hurt. Row closed at tea with Gaunt unbeaten
on 33. With a total short of expectations, Row needed to strike
early – which they did. Britt taking a skied chance off
Gaunt and following up with a superb diving return catch, to dismiss
Piper (0). Whilst Britt kept things tight, Gaunt then collected
two more. Mason’s introduction witnessed Kennison (3) bowled
round his legs, to leave Wadhurst reeling on 33-5. Enter Cooper.
The burly left hander took the game by the struff & with Taylor
(19), set about the bowling with aplomb. This partnership and
the dismissal in particular of Cooper, would determine the result.
Britt’s 1st ball return had Cooper caught behind for a bruising
58. Phil Rowe then snared 3 wickets, including Taylor (19) bowled
& Bell caught between the legs of Walsom. When Westmuckett
& Britt combined to run out Boorman (0), Row completed a thrilling
victory by 14 runs.
